Pendidikan merupakan suatu kegiatan yang sangat penting dalam kehidupan manusia. Pendidikan lahir dari aktivitas berpikir manusia tentang hidup yang bernilai, bermakna dan bermartabat. Manusia memerlukan pendidikan agar bisa menjadi manusia yang bermanfaat dan bermartabat. Dalam proses pendidikan perlu adanya seorang guru yang bisa menjadi pembimbing dan menjadi panutan. Dengan begitu pendidikan yang dilakukan akan lebih mudah dipahami dan mencapai tujuan yang diinginkan. gurulah barisan yang berada di barisan terdepan dalam pelaksanaan pendidikan. Gurulah yang harus langsung berhadapan dengan peserta didik untuk mentransfer ilmu pengetahuan dan teknologi sekaligus mendidik dengan nilai-nilai positif melalui bimbingan dan keteladanan. Guru merupakan salah satu faktor penentu kualitas pendidikan. Bila gurunya memiliki kualitas akademik, berkompeten dan professional, maka diharapkan proses pendidikan yang berjalan dapat optimal dan menghasilkan out put lulusan yang baik. Sebaliknya, bila guru tersebut tidak memenuhi kualitas akademik, tidak kompeten dan tidak professional maka keseluruhan proses pendidikan tidak akan optimal.

Islam menganjurkan umatnya agar sentiasa berusaha mencari ilmu pengetahuan. ilmu pengetahuan juga merupakan kunci kepada kebahagiaan hidup manusia di dunia, kerana sekiranya kita hidup tanpa ilmu, kemungkinan kita pada hari ini masih berada dalam kemunduran dan kemiskinan. Sangat jelas kebutuhan manusia akan ilmu pengetahuan merupakan ukuran yang sangat penting dalam membedakan antara kemajuan dan kemunduran bagi suatu bangsa dan negara.Tugas seorang pendidik bukanlah satu tugas yang mudah, bukan hanya mentransfer ilmu semata. Lebih dari itu seorang pendidik harus meniatkan semuanya semata karena ingin mendapat ridho Allah SWT.  Dikutip dari H.R. Abu Nua’im dari Ali, yang artinya :

“Ilmu adalah gudang dan kunci pembuka gudang tersebut adalah pertanyaan/ permintaan. Maka kalian bertanyalah (pada guru / ulama) maka kalian akan di rahmat Allah, sesungguhnya ada empat orang yang akan pendapat / diberi pahala yaitu, orang yang bertanya, yang mengajarkan, yang mendengarkan, dan yang mencintai pada orang-orang tersebut. Hadis tersebut mengingatkan bahwa begitu pentingnya peranan seorang guru dalam kehidupan manusia.

Menjadi seorang guru tentu harus mempunyai banyak ilmu, diantaranya ilmu agama. Ilmu agama adalah ilmu yang berkaitan dengan akhlak, maka semakin tinggi pemahaman seseorang terhadap masalah agama akan semakin baik pula akhlak dan perilakunya.  Tidak ada manusia yang sempurna, tetapi setiap orang boleh berusaha sekuat tenaga untuk melatih diri memiliki akhlak yang baik dan sifat-sifat yang terpuji. Terlebih lagi apabila dia menjadi teladan dalam dunia pendidikan yang diperhatikan dan ditiru oleh generasi baru bahwa dia adalah guru dan pembimbing mereka. Walaupun sudah menyandang gelar guru, guru harus tetap mencari dan menambah ilmunya.

Menjadi seorang guru itu harus mempunyai rasa ikhlas yang tak terbatas. Mengapa demikian? Karena disekolah kehadiran kita sepenuhnya untuk anak didik . Mau seperti apapun sifat dan karakter anak didik, mereka adalah amanah dari Allah untuk kita. Amanah yang harus kita jaga dan pertanggung jawakan kelak. Anak didik tidak hanya meminta guru untuk mentransfer ilmunya, tapi anak didik juga menginginkan kenyamanan saat menerima ilmu dari gurunya. Guru adalah orang tua kedua mereka, saat mereka berada disekolah gurulah yang menjadi orang tuanya. Keluh kesah mereka tentang hal apapupun, telinga kita harus siap untuk selalu mendengarkannya dan membimbingnya untuk  mencari jalan keluarnya.baik itu kesulitan dalam belajar atau masalah anak yang lainnya. Menjadi seorang guru tentu tidak mudah bukan? Pendidik harus memiliki sifat kasih sayang kepada peserta didiknya agar mereka dapat menerima pendidikan dan pengajaran dengan hati yang senang dan nyaman. Seorang pendidik harus memiliki sifat tawadhu, tidak merasa paling tahu atau serba tahu. Kadang ada hal kecil dari anak didik yang bisa kita jadikan ilmu baru.Hendaknya kita sebagai pendidik memperhatikan kondisi para peserta didik dalam mengajar. Seorang pendidik harus bersifat jujur kepada peserta didiknya sebagaimana yang dipertunjukkan oleh Nabi Muhammad SAW. Peranan guru akan selalu membekas dalam hati anak, hal baik ataupun buruk akan selalu terekam diotak anak. hal yang baik tentu akan selalu mereka ingat sebagai jasa dari gurunya, dan hal yang burukpun akan diingat dalam otak anak. maka dari itu tanamkanlah hal yang baik, sayangi mereka seperti anak kandung kita sendiri, agar anak sudah besar nanti yang diingat dari gurunya adalah jasa-jasa gurunya, bukan hal buruk tentang gurunya. Karena jika keberadaan guru sudah berkesan dihati anak didiknya, inshaallah dalam setiap doa mereka akan menyisipkan doa yang baik untuk gurunya

:“Dari Anas RA ia berkata: Rasulullah SAW bersabda: Muliakanlah orang yang telah memberikan pelajaran kepadamu”. (H.R. Abu Hasan Al-Mawardi)

Arti hadis diatas jelas sekali, begitu mulianya seorang guru. Sehingga siapapun yang telah memberikan kita pelajaran atau ilmu, harus kita muliakan. Memandangkan kedudukan guru itu sangat mulia, maka sawajarnya mereka dihormati dan dikenang jasanya sepanjang hayat.
