Sudut Baca untuk Menumbuhkan Minat Baca

Minat baca di sekolah dasar sepertinya belum membudaya, hal ini bisa terlihat dari minimnya pengunjung yang datang ke perpustakaan sekolah. Peserta didik lebih suka memanfaatkan waktu luangnya dengan bercanda, bermain atau jajan. Hal ini merupakan tantangan bagi para guru untuk berupaya menumbuhkan minat baca dikalangan peserta didik.

Ada beberapa faktor yang mempengaruhi minat baca diantaranya faktor lingkungan keluarga dan lingkungan luar keluarga . Faktor lingkungan keluarga dikarenakan orangtua yang tidak suka membaca dan tidak memberi contoh kepada anaknya untuk terbiasa membaca. Faktor lingkungan luar keluarga berkaitan dengan lingkungan pergaulan anak, sekolah yang tidak mendukung, dan harga buku yang mahal. Sebagaimana dikatakan Triatma (2016: 167) bahwa rendahnya minat baca disebabkan oleh beberapa hal diantaranya mahalnya harga buku dan terbatasnya fasilitas perpustakaan.

Upaya yang dapat dilakukan sekolah untuk menumbuhkan minat baca d iantaranya dengan menyediakan sudut baca. Kemendikbud (2016: 17) menjelaskan bahwa sudut baca merupakan sebuah ruangan yang terletak di sudut kelas yang dilengkapi dengan koleksi buku dan berperan sebagai perpanjangan fungsi perpustakaan. Melalui sudut baca peserta didik dilatih untuk membiasakan membaca buku, sehingga menjadikan siswa gemar membaca. Kemendikbud (2016: 13) menjelaskan tujuan sudut baca yaitu untuk mengenalkan kepada siswa beragam sumber bacaan untuk dimanfaatkan sebagai media, sumber belajar, serta memberikan pengalaman membaca yang menyenangkan .

Pembuatan sudut baca kelas memiliki beberapa tahapan. Kemendikbud (2016: 14) menjelaskan tahapan dalam membuat sudut baca kelas antara lain : 1) Menyediakan sebagian area di kelas untuk menyimpan koleksi bahan pustaka; 2) Merancang denah penempatan dengan memperhatikan pencahayaan, sirkulasi udara, keamanan dan kenyamanan siswa; 3) Merancang model penataan koleksi bahan pustaka dengan menyediakan tempat atau rak koleksi yang cukup, kuat, dan aman dan menentukan, memilah, dan menyediakan jenis koleksi bahan pustaka yang akan ditempatkan di sudut baca kelas; 4) Melengkapi koleksi bahan pustaka di sudut baca kelas; 5) Menata koleksi bahan pustaka pada tempat atau rak yang telah disediakan dan menyiapkan buku rekap baca; 6) Koleksi sudut baca kelas sebaiknya selalu diperbarui untuk mempertahankan minat baca siswa minimal satu bulan sekali.

Supaya tujuan dari sudut baca dapat tercapai, maka kreativitas guru dalam menata sudut baca sangatlah diperlukan. Sudut Baca dapat dilengkapi boneka karakter, meja dan kursi untuk membacakan cerita, dan di design semenarik mungkin. Buku tertata rapi dengan halaman muka (Cover) terlihat jelas, rak ukuran tinggi 80 cm, panjang 120 cm. Kira kira muat 25 eksemplar buku saja.

Hal-hal yang perlu diperhatikan dalam mengelola sudut baca diantaranya : (1) Buatlah sudut baca semenarik mungkin sehingga siswa mau melirik dan menyempatkan diri untuk mampir, melihat, memegang buku dan akhirnya mau membaca. (2) Atur tata letak sudut baca senyaman mungkin.  (3) Buku bacaan yang dipajang harus beragam ada buku fiksi maupun non fiksi, untuk kelas rendah perbanyak buku fiksi dan bergambar seperti dongeng atau cerita rakyat. (4) Buat agenda atau jadwal membaca, (5) Berikan tugas misalnya membuat simpulan atau ringkasan dari cerita yang dibaca dan yang hasilnya terbaik diberi hadiah (5) Ciptakan suasana gemar membaca dengan cara guru pun ikut bersama-sama membaca, mendongeng atau tanya jawab dari buku-buku yang telah dibaca.

Sudut baca dapat dikatakan juga sebagai perpustakaan mini di kelas, yang berperan sebagai perpanjangan fungsi perpustakaan SD. Dengan adanya sudut baca guru sudah membudayakan peserta didik untuk membaca sejak kecil, sehingga ketika dewasa mereka tidak canggung lagi mengunjungi perpustakaan.  Banyak manfaat yang diperoleh dari adanya sudut baca diantaranya : peserta didik akan terangsang untuk sering membaca buku, dan terbiasa disiplin dengan membereskan kembali buku yang telah dibacanya, memudahkan guru menempatkan buku bacaan sehingga tidak berserakan dimana-mana.

Aktivitas Pojok Baca

Pengelolaan sudut baca bukan hanya tanggung jawab guru kelas saja tetapi juga peserta didik dan para orang tua. Guru dan orang tua peserta didik dapat bekerja sama dalam pengelolaan sudut baca, Keterlibatan orang tua sangat dibutuhkan terutama dalam memotivasi anak-anaknya memiliki minat baca, juga dalam penyediaan koleksi buku yang dibutuhkan, sehingga buku dapat bervariasi dan koleksi bukupun akan bertambah.
