Kiprah Orang Sunda di Panggung Sejarah

Beberapa literatur sejarah telah mencatat bahwa masyarakat Sunda merupakan salah satu kelompok masyarakat yang berperan aktif pada masa pergerakan nasional Indonesia. Hal ini dibuktikan dengan dibentuknya sebuah organisasi pergerakan yang mewadahi orang-orang Sunda yaitu Pagoejoeban Pasoendan pada 20 Juli 1913.

Andre B. Irshanto dalam skripsinya berjudul Kiprah Politik Paguyuban Pasundan Periode 1927-1959, menerangkan, bahwa organisasi yang memiliki basis massa orang-orang beretnis Sunda ini dibentuk dalam sebuah pertemuan antara para pelajar dan guru beretnis Sunda yang bersekolah di HBS, KWS, STOVIA yang tersebar di wilayah Jakarta dan Bogor. Dalam pertemuan tersebut, Dajat Hidajat terpilih sebagai ketua pertamanya, sedangkan D.K. Ardiwinata, terpilih sebagai penasehat organisasi yang menghimpun orang-orang Sunda itu.

Sebagai organisasi yang menghimpun massa orang-orang beretnis Sunda, Pagoejoeban Pasoendan memiliki cabang nyaris di seluruh wilayah Jawa bagian Barat. Menurut Andre B. Irshanto, cabang Pagoejoeban Pasoendan yang memiliki jumlah massa paling banyak terdapat di kawasan Priangan. Sementara, yang paling sedikit jumlahnya terdapat di Indramayu  dan Banten.

Awalnya organisasi Pagoejoeban Pasoendan memiliki tujuan untuk memajukan taraf kehidupan masyarakat Sunda dalam pelbagai sendi kehidupan. Sama halnya dengan Budi Oetoemo yang berusaha untuk memajukan taraf hidup masyarakat Jawa. Kendati, organisasi ini dijiwai oleh nilai-nilai etnisitas Sunda. Namun, Pagoejoeban Pasoendan tidak membatasi ruang geraknya di dalam lingkup lokal saja. Alih-alih jago kandang, Pagoejoeban Pasoendan bersama dengan organisasi lainnya terlibat dalam sejumlah organisasi federasi seperti PPPKI dan GAPI pada 1920-an. Hal ini menandakan bahwa organisasi etno-nasionalisme tersebut telah memiliki pengaruh dan medan juang yang luas dalam lingkup nasional.

Di samping itu, Pagoejoeban Pasoendan memiliki sejumlah kader yang aktif memperjuangkan nasib bangsa selama masa pergerakan nasional dan pasca kemerdekaan Indonesia. Satu tokoh  Pagoejoeban Pasoendan yang paling masyhur dikenal masyarakat yaitu Otto Iskandar Dinata, pemimpin Pagoejoeban Pasoendan yang terkenal dengan julukan “Si Jalak Harupat”  juga pernah menjabat sebagai menteri pada kabinet awal Republik Indonesia. Selain itu, Pagoejoeban Pasoendan juga aktif dalam kancah pers melalui surat kabar Sipatahoenan yang awalnya dirintis oleh seorang tokoh Pagoejoeban Pasoendan dari Tasikmalaya yaitu Soetisna Sendjaja pada 1923 serta surat kabar  Langlajang Domas yang juga dirintis oleh Pagoejoeban Pasoendan Tasikmalaya.

Peran organisasi Pagoejoeban Pasoendan yang cukup signifikan terlihat pada masa Revolusi Kemerdekaan Indonesia (1945-1949). Pada saat Belanda ingin mengukuhkan kembali imperium-nya di atas bumi Nusantara dengan mencoba untuk membentuk negara-negara bagian di sejumlah daerah, termasuk di Jawa bagian Barat. Pagoejoeban Pasoendan yang sejak masa pendudukan Jepang (1942-1945) dimatikan, bangkit kembali pada 1947 dengan nama Pagoejoeban Pasoendan Republik Indonesia (PPRI), seiring dengan diproklamasikannya Negara Pasundan bentukan Belanda yang dipimpin oleh eks-Bupati Garut, Soeria Kartalegawa dari Partai Rakjat Pasundan (PRP) pada tahun yang sama.

Sekaitannya dengan hal di atas, Oom Komala Sandy dalam artikelnya berjudul Etnonasionalisme Paguyuban Pasundan dalam Asas Tunggal Pancasila 1980-1990 (Dari Pergerakan Politik ke Sosial-Budaya) yang diterbitkan Jurnal Avatara pada Maret 2018, menerangkan, bahwa  kebangkitan Pagoejoeban Pasoendan Republik Indonesia (PPRI) bertujuan untuk menepis klaim PRP yang menyatakan diri sebagai penerus perjuangan Pagoejoeban Pasoendan yang telah mati di bawah pendudukan Jepang. Sebagai langkah strateginya, Pagoejoeban Pasoendan melalui beberapa kader dan simpatisan yang mendukung Republik Indonesia berupaya untuk mengambil kontrol wilayah Pasundan agar tidak lepas dari orang-orang yang berpihak pada Republik Indonesia yang saat itu bermarkas di Yogyakarta. Dalam praktiknya, strategi tersebut terbukti berhasil dijalankan dengan  terpilihnya Wiranatakoesoemah, seorang eks-Bupati Bandung sebagai Wali Negara Pasundan pada pertengahan 1948. Wiranatakoesoemah sendiri adalah seorang menak Sunda nasionalis yang pro-Republik Indonesia. Upaya untuk mengendalikan wilayah Pasundan ini sukses dilakukan hingga akhirnya Negara Pasundan bubar pada 1950.

Pada perkembangannya, organisasi yang menjadi wadah bagi masyarakat Sunda ini pernah menjadi salah satu partai yang ikut berpartisipasi dalam kontestasi Pemilu 1955. Dalam menyongsong kontestasi tersebut, Pagoejoeban Pasoendan berganti nama menjadi PARKI (Partai Kebangsaan Indonesia) pada kongres yang dilaksanakan pada 1949. Namun, sayangnya, partai tersebut kurang berhasil mendulang suara meski di daerah kekuasaannya sendiri. Setelah pesta demokrasi perdana di Indonesia itu digelar, organisasi Pagoejoeban Pasoendan berupaya untuk merekonsialiasi kader-kadernya sekaligus membenahi tata organisasi yang sempat mengalami kekacauan akibat Pemilu 1955 dengan menjadikannya kembali sebagai organisasi yang berorientasi pada bidang sosial-budaya dan pendidikan pasca dilakukan referendum pada 1959. Salah satu wujud konkrit yang diberikan Pagoejoeban Pasoendan terhadap bidang pendidikan pasca referendum tersebut yaitu mendirikan Universitas Pasundan (UNPAS) di Bandung pada 1960-an.

Sampai hari ini, wadah yang menghimpun orang-orang Sunda tersebut masih tetap hidup dan sudah mencapai usia lebih dari satu abad. Sebagai wadah bagi masyarakat Sunda, Pagoejoeban Pasoendan tetap eksis menggarap bidang sosial-budaya dan pendidikan serta mengawal berbagai isu yang menyangkut kasundaan seperti halnya yang disuarakan belakangan ini.

Dengan terbitnya tulisan ini, penulis berharap dapat memberi keinsyafan kepada  publik tentang kiprah masyarakat Sunda yang mungkin selama ini kurang diketahui dengan jelas. Juga penulis berharap agar seluruh elemen masyarakat Indonesia, khususnya masyarakat Sunda untuk sama-sama merawat kebhinekaan dalam bingkai NKRI yang telah dibangun oleh founding fathers. Tak lupa, melalui tulisan ini, penulis mengajak kepada pembaca sekalian untuk mendoakan para pemimpin dan wakil rakyat kita yang duduk di kursi parlemen agar dianugerahi akal sehat oleh Allah Swt.  Aamiin!
